§  Solution is copied from any other source.

Objective

The objective of this assignment is to:

§  Learn to use Nmap commands

§  Learn to determine open ports with services

§  Learn to determine OS of the target machine

Scenario:

Your task is to conduct a network scan and gather information about the given target machine's running operating system (OS), open ports, and the versions of services running on those ports using Nmap. This information will be crucial in assessing potential vulnerabilities and improving the overall network security posture.

You need to install Nmap and are expected to resolve installation issues, if any.

Better if you use Nmap available in Kali Linux.

Assignment Instructions:

First of all, create a folder with your student ID on the Desktop. Then open the command prompt, go to the directory (the folder you created with your ID on the desktop) and execute all Nmap commands here as shown in the following snapshot.

Next, you are required to scan the server named as “scanme.nmap.org” and answer the followings questions:

Task 1:

1. Perform a basic network discovery scan to identify server is up or not.

Task 2:

1. Conduct an OS fingerprinting scan to determine the running operating system on the target machine. Mention the identified OS.

Task 3:

 1. Perform a port scan to identify open ports on the target machine. Document the open ports and their associated services.

 2. Use Nmap's service version detection feature to determine the versions of the running services on the open ports.

Submission:

Screenshots are required of the following commands:

1. Result of your basic network discovery scan in Task 1

2. Result of your OS scan in Task 2

3. Result of your port scan in Task 3

4. Result of service version detection in Task 3

Take screenshots of all the commands then paste in MS Word file as your solution and upload on VU-LMS within the due date. Commands shall be executed in the directory with your student ID.

Note: You are required to provide proper screenshots otherwise you will be rewarded zero marks.

Note: if scanme.nmap.org is down then you can try scan1.certmike.com or scan2.certmike.com or scan3.certmike.com
